DeanAnd keeping to the subject of Dorian and its impacts, Prime Minister Dean Barrow today sent a message of condolence and solidarity to the Government and people of The Bahamas following the devastation caused by the Hurricane. In his letter to the Prime Minister of the Bahamas Hubert Minnis, PM Barrow writes and we quote “As the People of the Bahamas commence to recover and reconstruct post-hurricane, we stand in solidarity with you; and further, look forward to assisting in any way we can through our National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) and through regional efforts organized by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).”

The P.M added “The ever-increasing occurrence of powerful hurricanes in our region is a clear and present reminder that our efforts to become a climate resilient region are prudent; and rightfully ought to be accorded our highest priority.” 

GOB through a press release also announced that cabinet agreed during a meeting today, to make a contribution of one hundred thousand US dollars to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas to assist in the recovery efforts.

The release also adds that GOB has confirmed with Belize Electricity Limited that they stand ready to make available personnel to assist with the restoration of electricity. Similarly, the Belize Defense Force also stands prepared to send a contingent to help with security if requested by the Government of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
