Mexican Commission to study Rio Hondo |
|
|
The Rio Hondo River represents a very important demarcation between Belize and Mexico. But the Rio Hondo, which is a means of sustainability for Belizeans as well as Mexicans, is often the victim of pollution.Proof of that is when traveling to Botes through Santa Cruz, one can see the piles of garbage thrown along the Rio Hondo while traveling through the small canal. But if all goes as plans things are about to change. According to an article published on El Diario De Quintana Roo, the Local Director of the Comisión Nacional Del Agua in Quintana Roo, Salvador Arizmendi Guadarrama, has announced that a number of studies will be conducted on the Rio Hondo. They will be carried out by the Commission Internacional De Limites y Aguas which falls under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The study conducted will determine the rivers level of pollution, the population living along the river bank, type of native species, and other aspects. After the studies are conducted, a plan will be established by the River Basin Commission in collaboration with Belizean Authorities to ensure that the waters of the Rio Hondo, which represents a natural border between Mexico and Belize be kept in optimal conditions. This will contribute to the establishment of a better life for present and future generations of the border strip between the two countries.
