On Monday we had reported on the death of a baby at the Northern Regional Hospital. The baby’s parents, Yohani Montejo and Norman Slusher, believe the tragedy could have been prevented if they had only received adequate medical attention. The mother told us that when she arrived at the hospital, instead of being treated, the nurses left on a break. By the time the nurses arrived, about a half hour later, the baby was delivered but no pediatrician was around. When the pediatrician arrived, the baby was gasping for life and a short while later the newborn passed away. |

Caledonia man dies four days after drinking poison |
A 37 year old man of Caledonia Village in the Corozal District died this afternoon, four days after he allegedly consumed poison. According to the family of Camilo Patt, on Monday he had gone out to socialize. His common-law wife, Elena Rodriguez, told us that Patt arrived home around four in the morning under the influence of alcohol. She said that while at home Patt drank gramaxone that was in a container. Shortly after, she noticed that he started vomiting a green substance. Patt was rushed to the Corozal Community Hospital, where he remained in a critical condition. Despite any improvements to his health, doctors discharged Patt and sent him back home. According to the family, the hospital told them there was nothing they could do, because the medication given the 37 year old was not providing any remedy. Just after two this afternoon Patt complained of severe pain, and his family rushed him back to the hospital, but he succumbed. Family members could not tell us what could have led Patt to consume poison. |
