Yesterday we heard the explanation given by the chairman of the Sugar Industry Control Board Gabriel Martinez on the reasoning behind the removal of Marcos Osorio as the Director of Sugar Industry Research and Development even though he has a whole year left on his contract. Martinez was also asked about the allegation made by Osorio that there is questionable management of the fuel subsidy programme which falls under SICB’s mandate. Martinez denied that anything was going wrong and pointed out that the Ministry of Finance provides oversight.
Gabriel Martinez, SICB Chairman
“Well, the fuel subsidy program comes from the ministry of finance to SICB who is mandated to deliver that service to the cane farming community and every year we have to render accounts to the ministry of finance and I can tell you that at this time the books were opened and all information was sent to the ministry of finance but let me just say that being a very sensitive issue as it is with the fuel subsidy because people want more others feel they get les you know it might be getting people somewhat with allegation with some improprieties but that is dealt specifically with the ministry of finance.”
