Twenty-eight-year-old Michael McDougall of a Belize City address has been formally arrested and charged by authorities for the murder of twenty-seven-year-old Darren Lee Gentle. Gentle who was an employee of the Ministry of Works Orange Walk Branch at the time of his death, was gunned down inside his vehicle on the night of Wednesday October 23rd, 2019 on a road, just off the Philip Goldson Highway, which leads to the village of San Jose Nuevo Palmar.
As we told you, Gentle along with a male companion are reported to have travelled to the area to meet with another individual, however, shortly after… a fourth person described as the shooter emerged from some nearby bushes, opened the rear passenger side of Gentle’s grey Chevy Trail Blazer and inflicted the fatal shot on Gentle which caught him on the right temple.
Further reports state that the individual who had accompanied Gentle, managed to escape from the scene uninjured and that the shooter along with the person Gentle went to meet fled from the scene in another vehicle.
During the weekly police press brief, Head of the National Crime Investigations Branch, ACP Joseph Myvette, told the media that while McDougall has been charged, police are seeking another individual in connection with Gentle’s murder.
Joseph Myvette – Head, NCIB
“The police have since arrested and charged Michael McDonald 28 years of a Belize City address for the crime of murder, so far one other person remain at large who is wanted in relation to this investigation. We are still trying to ascertain what exactly happened that night aside from the explanation given by the witness and police have also been doing their own investigation and are following several leads which eventually lead to this arrest so far but its an ongoing investigation at this point so the investigation doesn’t stop at the arrest of one person.”
While it is suspected that Gentle’s murder may have been as a result of a drug deal gone bad… that is yet to be established. We understand McDougall is no stranger to the law.
