Red-CrossThe Belize Red Cross (BRC) would like your help to reach out to our Caribbean neighbors in the Bahamas who were recently affected by Hurricane Dorian. Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas on Sunday as one of the strongest and most sustained Category 5 hurricanes ever to be recorded in the region. The powerful storm stalled over the Bahamas for several days causing devastating damages to various parts of the Bahamas, including the northern islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama.

The exact impact of Hurricane Dorian on the Bahamas is not yet known as authorities continue to access damages in affected areas. At this time however, it is known that as many as five persons lost their lives while several thousands are without a roof over their head and are in need of food, clothing and other basic necessities.

Earlier today the Belize Red Cross officially launched a Monetary Appeal to help persons affected by Hurricane Dorian. Funds gathered, according to BRC will be sent to the Bahamas Red Cross in Nassau for the purpose of assisting those most in distress. Belizeans are encouraged to make cash donations to any of the Belize Red Cross appeal accounts at heritage Bank, Belize Bank, Scotia Bank and Atlantic Bank branches across the country.

Most recent updates on Dorian indicate that it is now a category two hurricane and moving toward the East Coast of Florida and expected to make landfall anytime between tonight and tomorrow.
