NoImageCorozal residents and especially home owners are advised to be alert and cautious as there has been a string of burglaries and home invasions over the past weeks.

In one of the recent incidents that occurred this past Sunday around 3am, burglars entered a home in Ranchito Village even though the owners were inside sleeping. They did this by removing the wooden louvers of a window and slipping inside. They removed the family’s 32” TCL Flat Screen television and walked out of the house with it.

The homeowners did not realise what was happening until the burglars were on their way out.

Criminals have also been targeting vacant homes, whose owners are away. According to residents in Ranchito, last week thieves targeted an unoccupied two-storey house whose owners are currently in the U.S.

They emptied the entire house of its belongings. Police authorities were seen at the home after, carrying out an investigation.

These incidents have left the community very concerned for their safety and security.

One of the concerns at this news-station is that the Corozal Police Department has a policy of censoring the crime incidents in our community, because a majority of the incidents do not make it on the Police’s official report. But covering up crime incidents from the media is also covering it up from the community and we condemn such policy. We believe that the best way the community can protect itself from criminals is by knowing the truth about what is happening in their environs.

We will continue to investigate and report on incidents.
