no_imageEvery year about the same time between May to July residents and business owners residing along the banks of the New River experience the same worrying problem when the river goes from a healthy brown color to a nauseating green appearance and protrudes a strong scent which causes a fish kill and chases away wildlife in the area.

Earlier this week residents in the area began to report the annual problem once again which usually starts with the river changing color. Today we visited some areas along the river bank and while we did not notice any dying fish as yet what was painfully obvious was the sickening stench coming from the river which was evident from several feet away. A thick white foamy substance can also be seen floating along the river. Residents in the area also reported that the annual problem would usually start in this manner and quickly worsen to see the death of thousands of fish in the river.

We will continue to follow this matter closely. In tomorrow’s newscast we will be traveling up the river where we understand the situation is more serious.
