Screen_Shot_2019-06-24_at_8.18.31_PMSunday’s double murder in San Pedro which claimed the lives of 53 year old Belizean tour guide, Mario Graniel, and his guest, 53 year old Gary Swank, a cardiologist and professor, has received more international media attention as the word spreads of the callous murders.

Graniel and Swank had gone fly fishing in an area about one mile west of San Pedro Town, when it is suspected that a dark coloured skiff passed by the area with armed men onboard who opened fire at Graniel and Swank.

Graniel’s bullet-riddled body fell into the boat while Swank’s body was found about 30 feet away, floating face down in the lagoon.

Swank’s family in the U.S. issued a statement on the incident, stating that they are [quote]“heartbroken at the loss of our incredible husband and devoted father”.

The family added that the senseless murder has left them to mourn a purposeful life that ended too soon.

U.S. officials have also released statements. US Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia stated that he was “horrified to hear about the tragic death” while US Representative Ben Cline told CNN that the killing is an unthinkable tragedy.

Here is one of the media reports on the shocking incident in Belize.
