“Our service to the public is what keep us going, what motivate us and also what make us joyful in the work that we do. This day is celebrated globally this week with the support from the United Nations, the UN explains that it is to celebrate the value and the virtue of public service to the community, highlight the contribution to the public service in the development process, recognized the work of public servants and encourage young people to pursue careers in the public sector. We in Belize and in particular in Corozal Town join them in the celebration and that the Corozal Town Council we take the work of the public service seriously and this is why upon taken office we recognize the need for more financial and record keeping system to protect tax payers dollars and we have implemented these, we also saw the need for changes in the way the Council deals with our own employees, with a view of giving them greater purpose in what they do, none of our employees have terms of reference and so it made it difficult to monitor their work and progress they now have and they can work in environment in which they know what is expected of them. We also change the way we do business or provide public service in small but meaningful ways, we remodel the office separating cashiers for the traffic department and other services and this has ease the flow in the building, we also moved the vehicle inspection next to the hole chan field and to allow less congestion to customers here and better parking for our customers there, we also are launching our website this morning and the website is www.czltc.bzwe encourage you to go and visit our website there are couple changes and couples things that we will do and soon you will see our financial report every month on it so that the public is very aware on how we are spending your money. Finally, we change our opening hours and our customers can come during lunch hours to make payments if they need to, we are committed to continuously looking at ways to improve our service to the public.”

During the opening ceremony, all entities that were represented received certificates of recognition, including the Police Department, Elections & Boundaries, Customs Department, Labour Department, Health, NEMO, Income Tax Department, Belize Postal Service, ITVET, BAHA, Department of Youth Services, the Public Library and the Corozal Town Council.
