noimageSticking to the subject of Village Council Elections, today a release from the Belize Press Office announced the dissolution of village councils in accordance with section 10 (1) of the Village Councils Act Chapter 88 which states that the Elections and Boundaries Commission shall dissolve the council at least seven days before any general election of members of the council becomes due, by order published in the Gazette and on the radio and also whereas the general election of members of the councils set out in the scheduled hereto becomes due during the period of June 23rd to July 28th.


Hence, in accordance with the Act, the Elections and Boundaries Commission announces that village councils including Indian Church, San Carlos, San Estevan and San Felipe from the Orange Walk District are being dissolved with effect from July 9th, 2019.


The release goes on to say that from the said July 10th, 2019, the following provisions shall apply in accordance with Section 11 of the said Act which states that (A) All the powers, duties and liabilities of the outgoing Council shall, until the constitution of a new Council, be exercised, performed and discharged by the persons who held the posts of Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer of the Council immediately before the dissolution; and (B) All property belonging to or vested in or in the occupation of the Council shall, during the period aforesaid, vest in and be in the occupation, control and management of the persons indicated in paragraph (A) above.
