18 year old ITVET Corozal student Dalmir Tun will be travelling to Taiwan this Saturday to participate in a two-month-and-a-half long training programme. The opportunity for the training was made available by the Taiwanese Embassy through the Corozal Town Council for a student engaged in vocational education. Today Mayor Vellos discussed the opportunity and we also heard from Dalmir who shared that his dream is to one day become his own boss as a restaurateur.

“Couple weeks ago we got an email from the Taiwan Embassy giving the opportunity for scholarship to different high schools students, for example there was one that I can recall for food and beverage and there was one for electrical so we went about trying to find the schools that have these courses and of course ITVET was one of the places that standout and we all know that ITVET is a well known school which cover those courses so we sent the information to ITVET and we asked them to please if they can recommend t students who would be willing and interested to take up this challenge and they chose on Mr. Dalmir Tun, it was not something where he applied and he got it automatically the information had to be send to Taiwan Embassy and then out of all the application students would have been chosen and I am sure that he got chosen because he was one of the best candidates that the Taiwanese Embassy got, it was a mater of a short time couple days we had to look for applicants and thankfully ITVET responded very quickly and that is the way how Mr. Dalmir Tun got chosen for this opportunity to Taiwan.”

“I understand its about food preparation area and its about food and nutrition and knowing different types of food where you can have your own business or work for different companies.”

“What interested you about the food preparation where you will take that course?”

Dalmir Tun, Taiwan Scholarship recipient

“Well, its something that I was lobbying as I was small so I took that challenge because I see that in Belize there is the need for food preparation because a lot of people from abroad come to the country and we need people to prepare food and good food for those people that come to the country. I got that opportunity and I feel really good and excited that I will go and experience different things out there, meet different things and bring different things to the country, I am very thankful to the Mayor and to the teacher from the Corozal ITVET and all of them because of making this happen which I really appreciate.”

Mayor Vellos added that the Corozal Town Council will continue to seek opportunities for Corozalenos through the cooperation created with key partners such as Taiwan and Mexico.
