Screen_Shot_2019-06-12_at_6.28.27_PMFour years after he was indicted for the stabbing murder of 23-year-old Corozal resident, Samir Richards Vivas, nineteen-year-old Steven Williams was today found guilty of the lesser charge of Manslaughter at the Orange Walk Chapter of the Supreme Court.

Williams’s case started in the Supreme Court in April of this year and today Judge Herbert Lord delivered his decision in the trial of judge alone.

After reviewing all evidence presented to the court by both the prosecution and the Defense Judge Lord made his ruling on the basis that Williams, who was fifteen at the time of the incident was provoked by the deceased into inflicting the fatal wound.

It is in this regard that Williams was found guilty of manslaughter and not of the original charge of murder.

Viewers may remember that Williams was charged back in August of 2015 for the stabbing murder of Vivas.

At the time of the incident it was reported that Vivas was socializing in front of his house in Corozal Town when he allegedly became involved in an altercation with Williams over a bicycle. Reports at the time was that the situation escalated and resulted in Vivas being fatally stabbed once to the abdomen.

Williams was represented by attorney Anthony Sylvester, sitting for the Prosecution was crown counsel Shanidi Chell.

A sentence on this case is expected to be delivered on July 11th.
