PSEAt the top of the newscast we told about this year’s top 25 PSE Performers, five of them from the Orange Walk District. Today though the Ministry did not only release the names of the top performers, they also gave a break down by subject. According to the Ministry of Education, this year’s national performance by subject remains on average, similar to the trend seen over the past ten years. Looking a specific subject area, the MOE is reporting that seventy percent of the students that sat this year’s English examination scored at the adequate level meaning grade D or better.

In the area of math, results show that approximately 55% of students scored at the adequate level or better this year. In 2018 49% of students had scores in the E or inadequate range…that number dropped to 45% in 2019.

When it comes to science this year showed a decrease in performance by students, in 2018 60% of students scored in the above average range, while this year’s performance decreased to 46%.

Social Studies on the other hand showed an overall increase of 22% with an increase of 4% in the number of students whose scores were in the excellent range when compared to 2018.

When it comes to top performing schools, La Inmaculada RC placed fourth followed by Guinea Grass Pentecostal in fifth place in Category 1 which includes fifty or more sitters.

In category 3 which includes 15 to 24 sitters, San Estevan RC placed second while Chan Pine Ridge Government placed sixth.

In the final category which includes school who had only 7-14 sitters Trinidad Government School was tenth overall.
