Last week Thursday January 24th, Belize exported five containers of crude soybean oil to Jamaica marking it the very first shipment of its kind to be exported to that region.
The exportation was made possible through Bel-Car Exports and Imports in Spanish Lookout and Northern Grains Cooperative in Blue Creek, Orange Walk District who responded with significant quantities to supply the Jamaican market after successfully meeting the country’s import requirements were able to export crude soybean oil.
Of note is that the Directorate General for Foreign Trade (DGFT) is responsible for monitoring request from CARICOM States for suspension of the Common External Tariff to identify regional demand and possible export opportunities… to which the products are later shared with the productive sector and the public for expression of interest to supply.
Through sensitization sessions and export opportunity handouts, EXPORTBelize, a unit of BELTRAIDE, along with the DGFT have been raising awareness within both communities of the demand for both crude and refined soybean oil. The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Commerce through these agencies, continue to enable export market entry requests and actively seek export markets for local producers.
