Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Laura Tucker Longsworth, travelled to El Salvador to participate in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Forum of Presiding Officers of Parliaments of Central America and the Caribbean Basin (FOPREL) and the Central American Integration System (SICA). The aim of the MOU is for both regional institutions to join efforts in advancing institutional frameworks in the fields of social/economic integration and climate change among other issues.
Present at the ceremony were Secretary General of SICA, H.E. Vinicio Cerezo; President of the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador, Hon. Norman Quijano, representing the Protem President of FOPREL; and the Executive Secretary of FOPREL, Dr. Santiago Rivas Leclair. Also invited to attend the ceremony were Executive Director of SICA, Werner Vargas, and Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Belize in El Salvador, Margaret Juan.
Following the ceremony, the delegation of FOPREL dialogued with the Secretary General of SICA about ways on how both entities can establish a regional agenda in the areas of nutrition and food security.
