The signatures of Amy Forte and former Lands Minister Gaspar Vega are not the only ones that have raised controversy. So too, as we’ve mentioned, has the signature of Justice of the Peace Darlene Padron whose signed name is affixed to the document as a person who witnessed in person, Forte’s signature on the documents. But if Forte has confirmed that she never signed any documents, then what did Padron witness, or is it that she too was a willing participant in a scheme to hustle land. Opposition Leader Hon. John Briceno told the media yesterday that considering Padron’s known UDP/Vega connections, she also needs to be investigated.
Honourable John Briceno – Party Leader Of the People’s United Party
“We know that she is a UDP operative, she has put her name forward to try to represent both in San Felipe and in Orange Walk South. We know that Gaspar Vega brought in key people in key areas in the ministry; remember his nephew he had one as deputy commissioner of lands and one as deputy commissioner registrar of lands, two individuals that new nothing about land and the he brought in Miss Gillette, the daughter of Derrick Gillette who is compadre with Gaspar Vega who has benefited in the hundreds of thousands of dollars by getting land from Gaspar Vega and he also brought in Darlene Padron and even appointed her as Justice of the Peace so that they can sign the documents within themselves they don’t have to go outside of the ministry so then Darlene Padron as the Justice of the Peace signed that she saw that Emmy Fortes got the land and that she signed the conveyance to transfer the land to Andre Vega and I can assure you that they have been countless other files that Darlene Padron has signed. If the Prime Minister as a good Attorney; now in case is not to follow the money but follow the signatures, he needs to investigate all the documents that Darlene Padron JP signed, it was the same Prime Minister that gave the directive that Darlene Padron must be removed the ministry of lands, she is now in the department of environment and obviously she was not moved because she was doing a expectaculary good job in the ministry of lands but because of the complains of what was taking place in the ministry of natural resources under Gaspar Vega.”
In a statement to the media by Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte, he has indicated that Padron will be questioned by his office and if her explanations are not satisfactory, her name will be immediately removed from the list of JPs in Belize.
