Former Chief Executive Officer of the Commercial Free Zone in the Corozal District, Valentino Blanco, will not be returning as the head honcho, according to well-placed sources. We understand that Blanco and the Free Zone board have arrived at an agreement which will see him getting a compensation package for leaving the post early and in an amicable state.
Back in April the business environment inside the Commercial Free Zone in the Corozal District was in a tense state as the administrative staff took industrial action in protest of then Chief Executive Officer Blanco.
It had only been six weeks that Blanco had taken up the post, but his tenure had hit a wall, so to speak, as members of the administrative staff did not support a number of decisions taken by him. In response, the Free Zone board decided to suspend Blanco which created political upheaval in the north since Blanco, who is the brother in law of the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health Angel Campos, enjoyed political connections.
We understand that now that the position is vacant, the private sector members of the Board will be using their influence to ensure that a more acceptable and qualified individual is hired. We will keep monitoring the situation.
