Yesterday they were arrested and charged for drug trafficking and keeping a firearm and ammunition without a license by Corozal Police after a search at their residence led Police to the discovery of 10 parcels of cocaine weighing more than 20 pounds and a black Luger CZ75 Compact 9mm Pistol with magazine containing eleven live rounds.
Today, both 23 year old Farid Puck, a mechanic of San Joaquin Village and his common-law wife, 17 year old Mexican National Maricarmen Zul Castro appeared at the Corozal Magistrate Court before Magistrate Clive Lino to answer to the charges levied against them.
After the three charges were read to both accused, Farid Puck pled guilty to all three counts while Zul pled not guilty. During the hearing Puck implored the court to set his common-law wife free since according to him she knew nothing about the drugs or firearm and ammunition. Puck also mentioned to the Magistrate that Zul had a one year and seven month old baby boy that she needs to take care of.
After listening to Puck’s plea the prosecution represented by Sergeant Wolrick Simpson dropped all charges against Maricarmen Zul and she was set free. But the same could not be said for Farid Puck who was sentenced to five years in prison for the firearm without a license charge and another five for being in possession of ammunition without a license. Both sentences are to run concurrently. For drug trafficking, Puck was sentenced to 8 years in prison to be served consecutive to the firearm sentencing. For the drug trafficking offence Puck was also fined $50,000 to be paid immediately or in default an additional 8 years in prison to be served concurrently. Up to news time Puck was unable to pay the $50,000 fine, meaning that in all he will spend some 13 years in prison.
Yesterday at around 11:00am Corozal Police searched Puck’s residence located in the village of San Joaquin where they found a cartoon box hidden between the refrigerator and the wall. When Police opened the box they found the 10 parcels of suspected cocaine, the 9mm pistol and the eleven rounds of ammunition.
