Patten’s remarks are echoed in this bulletin issued by the Union. The publication discusses the current state of the sugar industry and the issues affecting workers. In it the Union says that if the problems at the co-generation plant are not fixed, heads must roll. Alberto Vellos- CTV-3 News Editor “The news letter says quote “if necessary adjustments are not made then heads must roll". What does that mean? Horris Patten, President, Belize Worker’s Union “Alright let us put it this way you are the manager of a section or a plant you have our management team who operates that specific section and if that team you have that manages your area and you constantly have problems within the area it is time for you as the manager to look into what is causing the problems there. And when you are looking into it you find out that there are things in there that needs to put it right then the manager has to put it right. So that if he doesn’t then he is to blame if he doesn’t put it right but if he tries to put it right and still fails then somebody within that section has to be responsible for what went down.” Alberto Vellos- CTV-3 News Editor “But what does 'heads must roll' mean do you think that BSI must get rid of the people that have been failing to fix the problem?” Horris Patten, President, Belize Worker’s Union “Definitely I do believe that if you have something that is going wrong and you constantly and you are not getting it right then somebody has to be responsible. And whosoever you find responsible should be moved. At CO-GEN a lot of things are not right. The management of CO-GEN is responsible for the overall things that are happening there. They must fix the problem there, they must fix the problem. Now in working to fix these problems you are finding that in different section people in your area are not putting to the do what they are supposed to do or there are a lot of things that can be wrong. It is time to move these people and replace them with people that will do things the way you want it.” |
